For the 2025-26 school year, TK1 is taking our students into space. Or put more precisely... a satellite they build will launch into low-earth orbit in August 2026. So for this school year, on CEO Fridays (16 per year) and on Wednesdays after school, students will learn all about core space issues and concepts, build and operate a ground station, and assemble different kinds of satellites, from cricketsats to CanSats.

INSTRUCTORS: Dr. Michael Garcia (NASA and the Smithsonian) and Dr. Jordan Alexander (UNM-Taos).

Our CubeSat workshops teach young learners how to design, build, program and launch small satellites. Core learning concepts include space systems engineering, electronics and sensors, orbital mechanics, data collection and telemetry, and will move into discussions when the time comes on payloads (likely cameras/sensors to measure light pollution in Northern NM).

This project is based upon work supported by the New Mexico Space Grant Consortium through the National Aeronautics and Space Administration under NASA Cooperative Agreement No. NM-80NSSC25M7069.

Funding support also comes from the Los Alamos National Laboratories and the Encantado Foundation.
