2026 Summer Camps
This year, our camps will be filled with FUN, GAMES, AND ADVENTURE
~ and completely free ~
WHEN: There are four different one-week camps for 2026. Each runs Monday-Friday, 9am - 4pm, starting June 1, 2026. Every Friday is a Pizza Party!
WHERE: Camps begin and end at TK1 Headquarters: 125b La Posta Rd just north of Albertsons in Taos. Daily transportation takes campers to sites around Taos County.
WHO: Youth aged 10-14.
SLOTS: Registration runs from March 2-31, 2026. Click the box below to register your child. Each camp is capped at 8 campers.
PROCESS: Registration is NOT first come first served. In April, our Enrollment Committee will meet to review all registrations, weighing each with equity considerations, including socioeconomic status of applicants, previous participation in TK1 programs, known needs that our programs can (or cannot) meet for individual campers, and to ensure a strong gender and ethnicity balance across our camps. Following successful entry to a camp, each family will pay a $25 fee to secure the spot. This will be refunded in full on the first day of camp.
COST: Thanks to a grant from the state's Public Education Department, our camps are completely free this year.
Camp One: Planet Taos – Wildlife & Action Photography and Video
Lead Instructor: Pete Monro
June 1 - 5, 2026. Monday-Friday, 9am - 4pm
This summer camp invites youth to explore the wild landscapes of Taos through photography and video. Campers will observe and document wildlife, ecosystems, and the rhythms of the natural world—capturing animals, plants, light, and movement in creative ways. Along the way, they’ll also film moments of action and sport, experimenting with slow motion and dynamic camera techniques. Each day combines hands-on shooting in nature with guided lessons in photo/video composition and basic video editing. Students will learn how to see the world like visual explorers—part naturalist, part filmmaker.
Camp Three: Ready. Set. Magic!
Lead Instructor: Dani Cervantes
June 15-19, 2026. Monday-Friday 9am - 4pm
This bilingual summer camp is for youth eager to go on camera and perform, or for those who want to learn all about the behind-the-scenes craft of operating cameras and editing if they choose to. Campers will act out short famous scenes from the most epic screenwriters, with an emphasis on natural acting for the camera. Most scenes will feature two or three performers, with two or more youth behind the camera. Some will dedicate their time as editors. We will have a grand finale event at a venue TBD to watch all the scenes.
Camp Two: The Triple Threat: Acting, Singing, Dancing
Lead Instructor: Kiki Siebenaler
June 8-12, 2026. Monday-Friday 9am - 4pm
This is a high-energy, hands-on experience where young artists get to act, dance, sing and then bring it all together on screen. Over five days, campers spend one day focused on acting, one day on dance, and one day on vocal performance, building confidence and core performance skills. The final two days are dedicated to producing a long-form music video, where participants collaborate as performers and creators, learning choreography, storytelling, and on-camera performance while turning their talents into a polished, shareable final project.
Camp Four: The Outdoor Digital Detox Camp
Lead Instructor: Madison Davis and Sandy Campbell
June 22-26, 2026. Monday-Friday 9am - 4pm
This is a brand-new camp that builds on the strengths of TK1's digital-health program, Kids, Screens & Phones (KSP). This camp will fuse the informative games and lessons of our KSP curriculum with new outdoor-recreation activities for participating youth. We will not preach screen abstinence, but rather give youth new ideas for reducing their digital reliance. The camp will open dialogue on screens and our relationships with them, including means of self control, new techniques that promote taking technology breaks, and proven ideas to #put-it-down.
This camp will help youth have dynamic outdoor experiences that ideally come to replace screentime – swapping indoor (screen) time for outdoor time. Participants will learn how to fish and hike, be mindful and relax in nature, birdwatch, write and draw and mural, knit and sew, and perform some basic gardening. Our campers will spend an hour every day preparing and eating meals outside, on a fire, a BBQ, an horno, and more. Meals will incorporate local cultural traditions and practices where and when possible – as we know that food preparation itself is a proven technique for reducing screentime.
